The National Finals of the 2nd University Electrical and Electronic Engineering Innovation Competition was successfully held at Beijing Jiaotong University from August 18 to 20. Sponsored by the China Electrotechnical Society and undertaken by the School of Electrical Engineering of our university, this competition is a nationally influential college student engineering practice event. It aims to promote the close connection between university engineering education and engineering practice, effectively cultivate students' exploratory and innovative abilities as well as their ability to solve complex engineering problems, and encourage teachers to integrate theoretical teaching with engineering practice.
With the theme of "Embracing Dual Carbon, Realizing New Power System Solutions", this competition set up conventional software and hardware tracks and an enterprise track. The conventional track included four proposition directions: new energy and integrated energy, future power grids, energy storage, and power industry software. The enterprise track, named "Schneider Electric Go Green Power Electronics Innovation Track", focused more on product innovation and industrial applications. A total of 811 teams from 172 universities across the country registered, with nearly 4,000 college students participating. Eventually, more than 230 college students from 54 teams of 34 universities stood out and entered the finals.
The opening ceremony of the competition was held in the meeting room of the Mechanical Engineering Building of our university. Hosted by He Jinghan, Chairman of the Competition Organizing Committee, the ceremony was attended by Han Yi, Secretary-General of the China Electrotechnical Society and Vice Chairman of the Competition Steering Committee; Kang Chongqing, Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University and Chairman of the Competition Steering Committee; Wang Jie, Vice President of Schneider Electric Co., Ltd.; Liu Chongru, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of North China Electric Power University and Director of the Competition Academic Committee; Jing Yun, Vice Dean of the Undergraduate School of our university; Wang Xilian and Wang Xiaojun, Vice Deans of the School of Electrical Engineering; as well as teachers and students of the finalist teams.

Professor Jing Yun from the Undergraduate School delivered a welcome speech on behalf of our university. He stated that the university and the school attached great importance to hosting this event and made active preparations to provide an excellent competition environment for the participating teams. He hoped that the contestants would perform at their best and show the strongest strength of themselves and their universities. Universities should give full play to the role of discipline competitions in "promoting teaching through competitions", continuously deepen the reform of education and teaching, promote discipline and professional construction, and improve the quality of talent training in universities. He believed that with the strong support of various universities, industries and enterprises, the competition would surely be a complete success!

On August 19, the 54 finalist teams carried out physical and scheme displays. Through demonstrations and defenses, the participating teams fully demonstrated the innovative vitality of contemporary college students who keep up with the forefront of engineering and technology and integrate theory with practice. After expert evaluation, 3 special prizes, 13 first prizes and 36 second prizes were selected. The undergraduate and graduate student teams from the School of Electrical Engineering of our university achieved excellent results with 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes. Five instructors including Li Kai won the Excellent Instructor Award, and our university won the Excellent Organization Award among participating universities.

The closing ceremony of the competition was held in the meeting room of the Mechanical Engineering Building. Yang Qingxin, Chairman of the China Electrotechnical Society; Yan Xuedong, Vice President of our university; Wang Zhihua, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Electrotechnical Society; Han Yi, Vice Chairman of the Competition Steering Committee; and Zhang Lei, Vice President of Schneider Electric Co., Ltd. participated in the event. Vice President Yan Xuedong delivered a closing speech on behalf of the university and extended warm congratulations to the winning teachers and students.
