"Unite, Forge Ahead, Set Sail" — The School of Electrical Engineering Holds 2023 Annual Summary, Commendation and 2024 Spring Festival Gala

date: 2024-01-18

"Dragons Soar Vibrantly, Electrical Engineering Thrives." On the afternoon of January 17, the "Unite, Forge Ahead, Set Sail" — 2023 Annual Summary, Commendation and 2024 Spring Festival Gala of the School of Electrical Engineering was grandly held in the multi-functional hall on the first floor of the Mechanical Engineering Building. Alumni representatives, retired teacher representatives, and all faculty and staff of the school gathered to celebrate the New Year and discuss development. The event was also broadcast live with pictures online.

Dean Wu Mingli extended New Year greetings to all faculty and staff. He reviewed the school’s achievements and breakthroughs in Party building and ideological and political work, talent training, discipline and scientific research, exchanges and cooperation in 2023, thanked all faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication, and hoped that everyone would uphold the original aspiration of educating for the motherland, keep in mind the mission of fostering virtue through education, carry forward the spirit of practical work and responsibility, and continue to create new and greater glories.

Party Secretary Wang Deyu read out the 2023 commendation list. 77 awards covering 174 person-times witnessed the diligent efforts of electrical engineering professionals, embodying their spirit of forging ahead and pursuing excellence.

Wang Deyu presented the Outstanding Alumni Contribution Award certificate to Zhao Pengfei, an alumni representative attending the event and founder of Beijing Weilin Video Technology Co., Ltd.

Wu Mingli and Wang Deyu jointly awarded prizes to teachers with 30 years of teaching experience and winners of the "Electrical Pillar" award.

Passing on the Torch: In 2022-2023, 12 teachers of the school retired honorably and 20 new faculty members joined the electrical engineering family. At the gala, the school held a retirement ceremony for the retired teachers. New faculty members presented flowers and best wishes to the retired teachers, and each new teacher introduced themselves and expressed their vision for the future. This session reflected the school’s tradition of passing on the torch, the emergence of talented people, and its growing strength. 24 teachers born in the Year of the Dragon took the stage to receive blessings and dragon-themed mascots presented by the school.

The gala featured wonderful performances by various departments and centers, winning waves of applause and cheers. Choirs from the Department of Power Engineering, Department of Traction Power, Department of New Energy, Department of Electrical Control, and the school administration sang "My Motherland and Me", "A Loving Family", "Madam Shexiang", "My Motherland", and "Tomorrow Will Be Better". Their beautiful songs expressed love for the motherland, praise for the times, wishes for the new year, and longing for a better life in the future, demonstrating the determination of all secondary units of the school to forge ahead together and their positive and uplifting spirit. The recitation "I Love Going to Work" by the Department of Power Electronics, "The Bond with Electrical Machines" by the Department of Electrical Machines, and the sketch "Revising Manuscripts" by the Electrical Engineering Base and Experimental Center showed the perseverance, diligence and professionalism of electrical engineering professionals. The song and dance "Flower Guardian" by the Department of Electrical Control and the clapper talk "Who Doesn’t Praise Our Electrical Engineering" by the school administration were full of creativity and passion, pushing the on-site atmosphere to a climax.

The gala also interspersed lottery and game sessions, bringing constant laughter and applause to the teachers present. The prizes for this event were sponsored by the alumni enterprise Beijing Weilin Video Technology Co., Ltd. On-site selection of performances was also conducted at the gala, and awards such as the "Dragon Flying and Phoenix Dancing Award", "Dragon Spirit Soaring Award", "Dragon Leaping and Tiger Jumping Award", "Finishing Touch Award", and "Hidden Dragon and Crouching Tiger Award" were finally selected. The faculty and staff spent a joyful time together.

The summary and gala event of the School of Electrical Engineering came to an end. Looking forward to 2024, the School of Electrical Engineering will continue to contribute to the development of the university with a more practical spirit and an uplifting attitude.
