At 4:00 PM on June 28, 2024, the demonstration project of "Research on Application Technology of 'Grid-Source-Storage-Vehicle' Collaborative Energy Supply for Rail Transit" successfully passed the grid-connection acceptance. It has become China's first and the world's largest-capacity distributed photovoltaic (PV) access railway traction power supply system project.

Implemented at the Hailesihaonan Traction Substation on the Bazhun Line of China Energy Xishuo Railway Co., Ltd., the project fully leverages the inherent PV resources along the railway. Equipped with 5MWp distributed PV and 5MWh energy storage, it can realize the collaborative consumption of PV power generation at two voltage levels of 27.5kV and 10kV for railways, achieving the "Grid-Source-Storage-Vehicle" collaborative energy supply for rail transit. After commissioning, the project is expected to generate nearly 7 million kWh of PV power annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 5,700 tons per year. It boasts significant economic and environmental benefits, and will play a demonstration and leading role in building high-level green railways and increasing the penetration rate of clean energy in railways.

Led by our school, the project "Research on Application Technology of 'Grid-Source-Storage-Vehicle' Collaborative Energy Supply for Rail Transit" has formed an industry-university-research integrated R&D team with complementary advantages, bringing together design, manufacturing, and construction units. The project leader is Professor Wu Mingli from the School of Electrical Engineering. During the implementation, the team overcame numerous difficulties caused by harsh natural environments and irregular on-site structures, completing all tasks with high quality. As the leading unit, the School of Electrical Engineering will continue to deepen the research direction of energy and transportation integration, and continuously contribute Jiaotong University's strength to serving the national "Transportation Power" strategy and the "Dual Carbon" goals!
