date: 2023-03-24

On March 23, 2023, the International School and the School of Electrical Engineering jointly held an International Student Orientation Meeting in the meeting room of the Electrical Engineering Building.

Attendees included Professor Wu Mingli, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering; Professor Tan Jie, Vice Dean of the International School; Professor Wang Xiaojun, Professor Wang Xilian, and Professor Wang Chenchen, Vice Deans of the School of Electrical Engineering; Li Yachun, Director of the Teaching and Quality Monitoring Center of the International School, along with Jiang Yang and Gao Jie; international student counselors Bao Yihong and Jiang Zhenghang; Jin Xue from the Logistics Center; and Liu Yang, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the School of Electrical Engineering. The meeting was hosted by Professor Wang Chenchen, Vice Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering. A total of 30 international students from the School of Electrical Engineering participated.

Professor Wu Mingli extended a welcome to the international students. He introduced the basic situation of the School of Electrical Engineering from aspects such as its historical evolution, organizational structure, faculty and student scale, scientific research capabilities, and international student training. He emphasized that academic studies at the university will shape the international students' future life choices and directions, and put forward two hopes for them: first, maintain a proper learning attitude and improve professional competence. He encouraged students to study diligently and communicate frequently with teachers; second, actively participate in activities and explore Chinese culture. He hoped students would learn about the extensive and profound Chinese culture and grow into envoys promoting friendship between China and their home countries.

Professor Tan Jie put forward requirements and expectations for the international students. She noted that the electrical engineering major has broad employment prospects, and the School of Electrical Engineering boasts strong strength in talent training and scientific research. She urged students to seize the learning opportunity and fully engage in professional studies. She also required students to carefully learn, understand, and strictly abide by all university policies, regulations, and disciplinary requirements. She emphasized that the successful completion of studies is the common pursuit and expectation of the students, the School of Electrical Engineering, and the International School.

Teachers Bao Yihong, Gao Jie, and Jin Xue conducted orientation education for the international students from three aspects: daily management, academic management, and dormitory accommodation management.

The successful holding of this orientation meeting enhanced the international students' understanding of and connection with the school. It also helped students better grasp the university and school policies, regulations, and work processes, laying a solid foundation for them to adapt to study and life at Beijing Jiaotong University.
