Based on the first-level discipline of electrical engineering, the school supports the world-level discipline construction of intelligent traffic in our university, giving full play to advantageous disciplines like power electronics & electric drive and power system & its automation, to highlight our specialty on rail transit and new energy. Clinging to the undergraduates education idea of seeking "wide caliber, solid foundation and emphasis on practice & innovation" and adhering to the university motto of "knowing and doing", we focuses on the fields of rail transit and power energy, dedicated to cultivating high-quality professionals with solid theoretical foundation and excellent engineering competence.
Undergraduate majors in our school include electrical Engineering and automation and its two characteristic profession directions: Electrical Engineering and Automation (Track Traction electrification) and Electrical Engineering and Automation (New Energy International Class). In 2011, the electrical Engineering and Automation was approved as a pilot major under national comprehensive reform; in 2012, the profession direction of track traction electrification was listed into the Outstanding Engineer Training Program as one of the first batch of majors; In 2012 and 2016, the school passed twice the engineering Education of the Ministry of Education; In 2015, it was approved by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the Ministry of Education to be listed in the "Promotion Plan of International Model Schools of the University"; In 2019, it was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major unit.
The school pays attention to the cultivation of practical ability of undergraduates, and has built more than 20 professional laboratories in six categories, including basic laboratory, specialized laboratory, science and education integration laboratory, university-enterprise cooperation laboratory, campus practice base, innovation training laboratory and so on. There are national electrician and electronic teaching base, Beijing experimental teaching demonstration center of Higher education, Beijing demonstration innovation experiment base of higher education for virtual simulation experiment teaching. With adhering to the integration of science and education, the school blends the cutting-edge technology into the practical teaching platforms. It has built one virtual simulation experiment center and one practical training hardware platform of the high-speed rail traction power supply, one virtual simulation experiment platform of the smart grid, and science-education integrated practical training programs of as many as 20 professional directions, such as new energy, power electronics, electrical machinery & control. It has also built Rockwell Industrial control university-enterprise collaborative laboratory and 15 off-campus practice bases with CRRC Qingdao Sifang Locomotives Co., LTD., Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Co., LTD., And Xuji Group Co., LTD.
The school implements a full tutorial system for all the undergraduate. Each of them can have their own tutor who teaches them professional courses as well. Besides, the tutor is responsible for offering guidance to undergraduate students on the course selection, course study, practical training and career planning during their four undergraduate years. Practical training programs under the guidance of tutors provide students with the opportunity to contact with scientific research, basic scientific research training and engineering practice, as well as academic guidance and career planning guidance, which stimulate students' professional learning interest and developing potential, and promote students' practice and innovation ability.
In the past 5 years, the school has won 2 national teaching achievement awards, 4 Beijing municipal teaching achievement awards and 9 university-level teaching achievement awards; 1 outstanding teachers of Beijing and 1 outstanding young Teachers of Higher Education in Beijing; 10 courses launched on China University MOOC website and 3 MOOC courses in English open to the world, among which the circuit course is approved as the national high-quality open online course. The young teachers of the school have also continuously been awarded in the Beijing Basic Teaching Skills Competition for many years.

The Hanergy School of Renewable Energy has realized that 100 percent of undergraduate professional courses are taught in English. In October 2018, the school was awarded as one of the top ten outstanding achievements of international Talent training in the Power industry in 2018.
